Aakash 2 in town for Rs 1,130

Aakash 2 – the new version of India’s low-cost tablet is now for sale at Rs. 1,130! But the question is will this tablet become a threat to its competitors like Micromax, spice Karbonn etc.

The HRD Ministry has launched Aakash 2, the new style of India’s low-cost tablet, when the previously released Akash was dumped by both users and reviewers for its poor presentation. The new Aakash 2 tablet is available at a price of Rs 1,130 for Indian students. Well, guys compared to the previous version of the Aakash tablet, the second version now has some upgraded  key features to enhance the user experience.

Aakash 2 tablet comes with 1GHz Cortex A8 processor, while the former model was powered by a 366 MHz processor. The Aakash 2 tablet has 7-inch capacitive display with four multi-touch points. The version 2 tab holds a resolution of 800×480 pixels; it runs on Android 4.0 operating system, whereas its prototype had Android 2.2 OS.

It also sports a front-facing VGA camera and has built in Wi-Fi connectivity, along with 512 MB RAM and internal memory of 4GB expandable up to 32GB with a micro SD card. The tablet is said to offer around four hours of battery time. Commercial version of the Aakash 2 is branded as UbiSlate 7Ci and is available for purchase on Data Wind’s website at Rs 3,500.

But I think Aakash will automatically fail. Any tech venture by govt usually fails as observed so far. Same thing will happen to this too. Aakash 2 is not a great innovation. Go to Taiwan and you will see tabs like these are made at homes. It is a silly venture ever…what will a poor man do with a WiFi tablet?? Lol… he won’t even have WiFi at his home…and there have been no reviews about the quality…I doubt if it will be anything above pathetic considering the past record of this…I’m pretty sure that Mr.Sibal has earned a lot over the ventures of this tablet. Just a new mode of corruption that’s all.

I think Aakash 2 is history now. There is a news leak about a better tablet coming up – Wammy Desire with specifications like dual core and android jellybean. I think this one is a killer against all other budget tablets in the Indian market and will also leave behind competitors. I had ordered one recently and this one works with sheer smoothness…simply loving it…

Save up to buy an iPad as in the long run the cheap Indian models will have strong limitations and many faults; the quality of an iPad will remain long after its price is forgotten. It is true that the poor man buys twice. Rivals need not worry; as the government will not even supply 1/100 th of the orders. It was waste of time pre-booking the UbiSlate.

‘Aakash 2′ was launched in October last year by the government to make available computing devices to students at subsidized rates. But my question is why there is a subsidy on this tablet? Is this another Congress-led scam?

Well, guys here are the key specifications of Aakash 2:

  • Wi-Fi
  • USB port
  • 512 MB RAM
  • Front facing camera
  • 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor
  • 4GB (internal) flash memory
  • External memory of up to 32GB
  • 7-inch multi-touch capacitive screen
