Smart Watch by Sony (ソニーのスマートウォッチ)
Sony has released a new accessory for use with their smartphones – a Smartwatch, and the company will be launching the device in India by June this year. The release of smartwatch was confirmed by the company recently, and it will be priced at Rs. 6,299 here. Sony SmartWatch, also known as Android watch, is a small gadget with 36 x 36 mm dimensions, 8mm thickness and weighs 15.5 grams. It can easily clip onto a silicon wristband or strap provided with the watch.
Well, for people who consider this as overpriced, you will get for what you invest in this watch. The product has vibrant OLED colour display and can be used with interchangeable colour straps to match your taste, personality and outfit. The best feature of this watch is that it is equipped to function with one’s Android phone model by allowing reading mails, messages, use reminders & calendars and receiving updates from your social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter. If you own a Bluetooth head set, you can see what calls your phone is receiving and if you cannot or do not want to receive a call, you can mute or reject it.
Compatible with all models of Android phones of various companies, it makes it flexible not to own a Sony smartphone only. Bluetooth 3.0 is the version used to sync and connect the functional aspects of the smartwatch and smartphone. You can also transfer many other applications over the phone apart from the ones Sony provides. This smartwatch is basically an accessory that the firm has brought out for use with phones. Earlier, Sony Ericsson T610 was very popular with the MBW-100 Bluetooth analogue watch.
This new invention by Sony has competitors too – Pebble e-paper watch, which had gained reputation at Kickstarter. Pebble e-paper watch turned out to be largely funded project for Kickstarter, just within one week of its launch. This was a project initiated by Pebble Technology, and the watch has an e-ink display on the surface, along with support to many applications that are compatible with any Android phone or iPhone.
It is essential to install the LiveWare Manager and Smartwatch software by Sony through Google Play store. Some people however say that the watch is basically designed for Sony Xperia phone models and when experimented, the watch could not be paired with other Android phones through Bluetooth detection. However, Sony claims that the operating range of Bluetooth using the watch covers a radius on 10 meters. Default accessories with this watch include main watch unit with a clip, USB charger and watchband adapter.
Well, I think it is important to research upon the functional aspects of the watch before you invest, because, as some have a negative say, it is better to know and understand how well it works with Android phones of other companies that Sony! So, give it a thought before purchasing and then go for it…..
