Tumblr got hacked!!
Tumblr, a cool and trendy blogging website got hacked by a software worm two days ago. With sudden issue with the website online, it was clear and evident that it was a victim to hackers and all the blogs were a condemned piece in a jiffy. Tumblr gained great popularity after its set up and became a superb blogging and interactive platform.
Supposedly, Gay Nigger Association of America [GNAA] was the name of the hacker group that entirely dismissed that the interactive forum on the website was offensive, vitriolic and expletive laden in the form of comments and messages. The company running Tumblr communicated on Twitter that they were aware of the hack attack and are looking into resolving the problem as quick as possible.
Reportedly, this website has been home to more than 83 million blogs, total page views of over 18 billion in a single month, 37.2 billion blog posts and close to 130 employees! This is absolutely amazing! If a blogging website has to get popular, this is just an example Tumblr has depicted in a time span of five years. And you will be amused to see that Tumblr was home to high profile blogs like that from The Verge and CNET, which was just vandalized by the software worm.
Launched in April 2007 by David Karp, Tumblr had Marco Arment as its lead developer until 2010. Later on, he took leave from the company to focus on another website, Instapper. The greatest act about Tumblr is that within two weeks after its launch, the website had 75,000 users! In the year 2009, Tumblr acquired Tumblerette of Apple Incorporated’s App Store application that was spawned by Garrett Ross and Jeff Rock. So the website went on to serve iPhone and Blackberry smartphones with its expanded applications in 2010. In June this year, Tumblr launched Tumblr 3.0, its new iOS application, which was equipped to support Spotify – high resolution images. During the same month, Tumblr collaborated with Adidas for an advertising campaign. And this was a big achievement as Adidas is a huge brand. Further on, Tumblr announced plans to slowly initiate paid advertising on the site.
Hope the cross site scripting attack on the website can get easily resolved. It was unexpected and quite shocking for its users as well, who took complete liberty in criticizing the entire ground of professional or off-the-cuff blogging. Common people…..Tumblr is just right for its tagline – Follow the Creators. The success story says it all…..
